Montgomery County Approves $20 Million for Job Creation Initiative Aimed at Attracting New Businesses

Council aims to revitalize the economy with a $20 million fund

In a recent meeting, Montgomery County Councilmembers unanimously approved a $20 million allocation aimed at kickstarting the local economy. With 25,000 fewer jobs in the county compared to September 2019, councilmembers are looking for ways to attract businesses to the area.

To achieve this goal, the JOBS – Jobs, Opportunities, and Business Support – Initiative was launched. This initiative is designed to create up to 1,000 jobs with a focus on equity in areas along the I-270 and Route 29 corridors as well as eastern downcounty. One component of the initiative is a $10 million job creation fund that offers employers $10,000 for each new job created with a salary of at least $100,000, with a maximum of $12,000 per job and $50
