Baby Samnang Chea, a young child from Cambodia, has been suffering from tonsillitis and adenoiditis (inflammation of the nasopharyngeal lymphoid tissue) about 1-2 times per month for the past year. This has led to complications such as respiratory infections and otitis media. The recurring disease causes symptoms like fever, stiff throat, stuffy nose, headache, dry cough, sleep apnea, and snoring.
Ms. Li Sek, the baby’s mother, brought her child to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam for treatment at the Ear, Nose, and Throat Center of Tam Anh General Hospital. Chea’s endoscopy results showed red and swollen tonsils with a layer of yellow fluid in her throat. On May 7th, Dr. CKI Diep Phuc Anh diagnosed the baby with severe tonsillitis and adenoiditis leading to airway obstruction and difficulty breathing through the mouth.
