New Blood Joins The NFL Today: Matt Ryan Set to Join CBS Sports as a Studio Analyst

Matt Ryan to Replace Simms and Esiason on NFL Today

Matt Ryan, a former NFL MVP and four-time Pro Bowl quarterback, will be joining CBS Sports as a studio analyst on “The NFL Today.” This announcement came after long-term analysts Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason left the network. Ryan will join James Brown, Nate Burleson, Bill Cowher, and JJ Watt in the studio.

Simms had been with CBS since 1998 as the lead game analyst before moving to the studio in 2017. Esiason had been on “The NFL Today” for 22 years and was the show’s longest-tenured analyst. Both Simms and Esiason’s contracts expired after the Super Bowl.

CBS Sports President and CEO David Berson praised Simms and Esiason for their contributions to the network’s NFL coverage. He highlighted their standard of excellence and thanked them for their dedication and commitment. Ryan played for the Atlanta Falcons and Indianapolis Colts, ranking in the top 10 in NFL history in various passing categories.

This move marks a significant change under Berson’s leadership following Sean McManus’ retirement three weeks ago. The network is excited to welcome Ryan to the studio team and looks forward to his chemistry alongside other analysts.

Ryan worked as an NFL game analyst last season for CBS Sports, appearing in the studio during playoffs and at Super Bowl LIV.

Simms joined CBS in 1998 as a lead game analyst before moving to the studio in 2017. On the other hand, Esiason had been on “The NFL Today” for 22 years and was its longest-tenured analyst.

Ryan retired from football after a successful career that spanned 15 years with both Atlanta Falcons and Indianapolis Colts.

CBS Sports is thrilled about this new addition to its team of experts who will bring unique insights into football games.
