New Businesses in North Carolina Rebound with Over 15,000 New Additions in 2021

Black-owned Business Contributes to Economic Growth in Raleigh

New businesses in North Carolina are rebounding following a decline during the pandemic, with almost 15,000 new businesses added so far this year. One of these new businesses is The Flavor Hills, a restaurant with locations in Raleigh and Jacksonville, North Carolina.

Chef Morgan Teianne and her three partners opened the Raleigh location of The Flavor Hills, which is one of the many Black-owned businesses in downtown Raleigh identified by the Downtown Raleigh Alliance. Teianne expressed her appreciation for the support and excitement from the community upon opening the new location. She is inspired by her father and late grandmother to offer and perfect Southern cuisine, and she left her hometown in Washington, D.C., to bring her culinary talents to North Carolina.

The success of the Jacksonville and Raleigh locations has prompted Teianne and her team to consider opening another location in Charlotte later this year. The goal of The Flavor Hills is to create a welcoming space where people can come together to enjoy good food, laughter, and drinks. The addition of new businesses like The Flavor Hills contributes to the growing number of new business filings in Mecklenburg County, with around 3,000 new businesses established so far this year.
