New Health Center in Wiggins: Removing Barriers to Quality, Affordable Healthcare for Stone County Residents

Construction Begins on Coastal Family Health Center and Pharmacy in Wiggins

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Wiggins for the new Coastal Family Health Center and Pharmacy site, which will improve access to healthcare for the community. The $1.8 million project has been in development for over six years in Stone County, with a focus on removing barriers to healthcare access faced by more than 500 residents who had to travel long distances to receive medical services.

Angel Greer, CEO of Coastal Family Health Center, emphasized the organization’s commitment to providing quality and affordable healthcare for all members of the community, regardless of economic or insurance status. The center offers sliding fee discounts to help individuals and households in need of medical assistance reduce the cost of healthcare based on income and household size.

Wiggins Mayor Darrell Berry expressed his excitement about the new clinic, noting that it will help reduce appointment wait times for residents in need of medical attention. The goal is to serve the first patient in Wiggins by mid-September through walk-in services or the drive-through pharmacy. The addition of the Coastal Family Health Center in Wiggins and Stone County is seen as a positive development that will improve access to healthcare for the community.

Coastal Family Health Center was initiated due to the significant travel and transportation issues faced by Stone County residents who had to travel far from home for medical services. This led Greer and her team at Coastal Family Health Center to focus on serving the community and removing barriers that prevent people from receiving quality care.

The organization has been working hard behind the scenes to make this dream a reality, with funding support from various sources such as government grants and private donations. Greer thanked everyone involved in making this project possible.

The new clinic will offer a wide range of medical services such as primary care, preventive care, pediatrics, dentistry, mental health counseling, lab testing, radiology imaging services among others.

Overall, this new clinic will be a significant improvement for Stone County residents who have struggled with accessing quality healthcare due to distance barriers. It’s an exciting time for Wiggins and Stone County as they continue their efforts towards improving overall health outcomes for their citizens.
