New Policy Aims to Boost Behavioral Health Services at Affordable Housing Development in San Diego County

County Seeks to Expand Mental Health Services in Affordable Housing Communities

In a unanimous decision, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors approved a new policy on Tuesday aimed at improving behavioral health services at housing developments that receive financial support from the county. Introduced by Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer, the policy focuses on enhancing safety and security at Windsor Pointe, an affordable housing development located in Carlsbad.

The 50-unit development consists of two sites on Oak Avenue and Harding Street. The board has requested that the county explore various options to maximize on-site and referral-based behavioral health services, increase the level of services and hours of on-site case management, and develop a plan for utilizing No Place Like Home funds to add supplemental security personnel at Windsor Pointe.

Supervisor Lawson-Remer emphasized the importance of public safety, citing Carlsbad Police crime data that showed an increase in calls for service at Windsor Pointe, many of which were related to mental health issues. The policy passed on Tuesday aims to address these concerns by allocating resources to enhance security, support services, and case management for residents.

By implementing these changes, the county hopes to create a safer and more supportive environment for residents at housing developments like Windsor Pointe. This initiative aligns with efforts to address the mental health needs of vulnerable populations and ensure access to necessary services.
