New School-Based Health Centers Set to Boost Student Health in Saginaw and Bay City: Inside the Comprehensive Facilities at Saginaw United High School and Bay City Central High School

New Youth Health Center now available within Saginers High School

Saginaw United High School is set to open in the fall, and with it comes a new Great Lakes Bay Health Centers school-based health center. This new facility will be similar to the existing centers at Saginaw High School and Arthur Hill High School, offering services to all Saginaw County students aged 3-21. Each school-based health center is a comprehensive primary care facility staffed with a licensed social worker, nurse practitioner, nurse director, nurse manager, and other support staff, according to GLBHC Senior Vice President Angelia Williams.

Services provided at the health centers include treatment for acute and chronic illnesses, sports physicals, and more. If a student falls ill during school hours, they can visit the health center to be assessed by the appropriate clinical personnel with parental consent. The health centers focus on improving health outcomes to ensure students remain healthy while at school.

In addition to the new Saginaw United High School health center, another school-based health center is also set to open at Bay City Central High School by the fall. Construction and implementation plans have been approved, with a groundbreaking event scheduled for mid-May.
