Jets reveal retro-inspired permanent jerseys with a nod to the 1980s

The New York Jets are making a change to their uniform by opting for a design inspired by their 1980s style, which they wore as throwbacks last season. The decision to adopt the throwback uniforms full time was made following a positive response to them.

The Jets revealed the new jerseys on Monday, which closely resemble the design from the 1980s era when players like Mark Gastineau and the “Sack Exchange” achieved success. While there are some slight variations to the old look, including an alternate uniform with black as the primary color, the overall style will be familiar to Jets fans and NFL enthusiasts of a certain age.

Last season, the Jets sported “legacy white” throwbacks, which received enough positive feedback to prompt the team to permanently switch back to the classic look. Despite having redesigned their uniforms prior to the 2019 season, the team ultimately decided to return to the traditional design.

One notable change is on the helmet, where the jet design on the “J” in Jets has been reintroduced. Jets chairman Woody Johnson expressed that the decision to return to the team’s roots was influenced by the fans, stating that
