Ole Miss Softball Defeats Southern Miss in Nail-Biter of a Game, Thanks to Home Runs and Bullpen Pitching

Athletics at the University of Mississippi – Ole Miss

In a game against in-state rival Southern Miss, Ole Miss softball team emerged victorious with a score of 7-3. Lexie Brady hit her team-leading 13th home run of the year, while Angelina DeLeon also contributed with her second longball of the season. Grace Sparks pitched well out of the bullpen, striking out five over 3.2 innings to secure the win for the Rebels.

Southern Miss got on the board first with a run in the opening inning, but Ole Miss responded with three runs in the bottom half. Jalia Lassiter and Jaden Pone set the table for the Rebels, who took the lead with a sacrifice fly and Brady’s home run. Despite Southern Miss tying the game in the second inning, Sparks settled in and retired the next 10 of 12 batters she faced.

In a surprising turn of events, it was Ole Miss’s bottom order that sparked a rally for them in fourth inning with Ryan Starr getting on base before Lassiter delivered a two-run single to put them back in front. DeLeon then extended their lead with her two-run home run which eventually secured their victory on Saturday night.

The Rebels will be hosting Auburn at Senior Weekend from April 26th to April 28th at their next series.
