Winners of the Colorado Springs Small Business Week Awards announced

The Small Business Week celebration kicked off with the Small Business Bash at Boot Barn Hall and the announcement of the winners of the Small Business Week Awards. The event recognized outstanding entrepreneurs and small business owners in various categories.

One of the standout winners was Von Kessel & Partners of iFLY Indoor Skydiving in Colorado Springs, who were named Veteran Small Business Owner of the Year. The indoor diving venue was founded by three retired Air Force Academy colonels and opened in March 2022. It’s a great example of how veterans can use their skills and experience to create successful businesses.

Another winner was Behr and Behr of the Platinum Group Realtors, named Family-Owned Small Business of the Year. The team includes Ed Behr, founder and owner, along with brokers Renee, Brandon, Leah, and Erik Behr. It’s inspiring to see how families can come together to build a thriving business that has been around for generations.

Jackie Lujan was recognized as Young Entrepreneur of the Year for her work as founder and CEO of The Lighthouse Early Care and Education, a learning-focused daycare. She is an example of how young entrepreneurs can make a difference in their communities by providing essential services like early care and education.

Zachary Barker, a certified economic developer and founder of the Startup Support Center, was named Small Business Champion of the Year. His work in entrepreneurship growth consulting and community development has led to the establishment of a successful methodology for building entrepreneurship ecosystems. He is an inspiration to anyone looking to start or grow a business in Colorado Springs or beyond.

Lastly, Sevan Stryker, general manager of Bob Penkhus Motor Co., was named Small Business Person of the Year. He is an excellent example of how individuals can excel in different areas within a business organization while still contributing to its success as a whole. His leadership skills have helped make Bob Penkhus Motor Co., one of the most successful dealerships in Colorado Springs area.
