Outstanding Student-Athletes of the University of Cincinnati Receive Prestigious Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards

Seventeen Bearcats Awarded Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholarships

As the Director of Strategic Brand Engagement at the University of Cincinnati, David Cohen is no stranger to recognizing outstanding student-athletes. This year, seventeen UC student-athletes were honored with Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards presented by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. Eleven of these honorees are women’s student-athletes, with basketball and soccer leading the way with three each.

The awards aim to recognize students of color who have excelled both academically and athletically, while also demonstrating a commitment to community service and student leadership. Inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe Jr.’s dedication to education and love for tennis, U.S. colleges and universities nominate their outstanding sports scholars for this annual awards program.

Among the honorees are football players Jordan Young and Ken Willis, men’s basketball player Viktor Lakhin, men’s swimming and diving duo Gal Ido and Brogan Robinson, men’s track and field standout Camden Beatty, women’s basketball stars Jillian Hayes, Mya Jackson, and Malea Williams, lacrosse player Dani Mlkvy, soccer stars Brooke Brown, Kendall Battle, Vyviene Spaulding, women’s swimming and diving athlete Mia Hensley, women’s track and field sprinters Anaya Dees and Faith Kingsley, and volleyball player Shaye Eggleston. Each of these student-athletes has shown remarkable excellence both on and off the field.
