Texas Rangers left-hander Brock Burke was placed on the injured list on Saturday with a fractured hand. Burke sustained the injury after punching a wall in frustration following a poor outing against the Houston Astros on Friday night. In that game, Burke gave up four runs on three hits in just two outs during the Astros’ five-run seventh inning. Following Burke’s exit, the Rangers relied on Grant Anderson, David Robertson, and Kirby Yates, who held the Astros to just one run on two hits and a walk as the Rangers won 12-8.
It appears that Burke may have been upset about his recent performances, as this poor outing was his second consecutive bad appearance. In his previous game against the Astros, he allowed a run on three hits without recording an out. However, it is not clear whether this was also due to frustration or if it was simply a bad outing.
The Rangers made corresponding moves by purchasing the contract of veteran right-hander Austin Pruitt and transferring infielder Justin Foscue to the 60-day injured list. Pruitt, who has a 4.43 ERA in 310 career big-league innings, most recently posted a 2.98 ERA in 2023 with the Oakland Athletics. Foscue injured his oblique in just his second big-league game.
The Rangers, who are currently holding first place in the American League East with an 8-6 record for the season, will now be without one of their key pitchers for an undetermined amount of time.
