Revitalizing Gia Lai’s Dipterocarp Forest Ecosystem through Science, Technology, and Innovation: A Promising Path Toward Economic Sustainability

Gia Lai aims to use scientific methods to rehabilitate dipterocarp forests

During a recent meeting with the Minister of Science and Technology, Huynh Thanh Dat, the Gia Lai Provincial People’s Committee presented a proposal to support research on the scientific basis for restoring and sustainably managing the dipterocarp forest ecosystem. The aim of this meeting was to exchange ideas on organizing and managing science, technology, and innovation activities to address challenges and promote economic development in local communities.

Gia Lai province is closely tied to agriculture, which is why implementing scientific and technological tasks is essential to supporting farmers in their work. The province has proposed various tasks aimed at improving the quality and competitiveness of key agricultural products. These include researching the scientific basis for restoring and sustainably managing the dipterocarp forest ecosystem. This ecosystem is home to many large mammals and birds, contributing significantly to ecological balance and bringing socio-economic benefits to the region.

In recent years, this forest ecosystem has been exploited improperly and unsustainably, leading to a decline in its area. To address this issue, Gia Lai province has proposed promoting conservation consulting as well as excavation activities for paleolithic relics in An Khe. These initiatives aim at protecting natural resources while also promoting tourism in the region.

Minister Huynh Thanh Dat praised Gia Lai’s achievements in promoting science, technology, and innovation (STI) in agriculture. He encouraged continued investment in STI activities that focus on research, technological innovation, application of high technology across different sectors such as renewable energy or healthcare industry could help tackle challenges like climate change or pandemic while promoting economic development in local communities.
