Rising Tide of Robberies Plagues New Iberia Businessman and Lawyer Demands Action

Business owner targeted by copper thieves

Frank Barber, the attorney of New Iberia businessman Dr. Adel Malahmeh, is deeply concerned about a recent surge of robberies that has impacted his client’s properties. The thefts have left significant damages and financial losses, as well as inconvenience for Malahmeh who owns nearly 90 buildings across Iberia Parish and surrounding parishes.

Malahmeh, who immigrated to New Iberia from the Middle East at the age of 23, is particularly worried about the impact on his customers and patients. He explains that people have been stealing his A/C condenser units, leaving behind significant damages and causing him financial losses. This trend has forced him to repeatedly replace the stolen units, leading to additional costs and inconvenience.

According to Malahmeh and Barber, the theft of copper from the A/C units has resulted in tens of thousands of dollars in damages. The perpetrators are selling the copper for quick cash, leading to a cycle of thefts and replacements that Malahmeh finds unsustainable. Despite filing an incident report with the New Iberia Police, Malahmeh feels that more could be done to address the issue and prevent further thefts.

The lawyer emphasizes that collaboration between law enforcement agencies and businesses is crucial in addressing this issue effectively. He believes that by working together, they can find a solution to protect communities from such crimes while ensuring businesses operate efficiently and sustainably.

Malahmeh is hoping for a resolution soon so he can provide a comfortable environment for his customers and patients during summer heat in Louisiana which can be intense.

Frank Barber urges law enforcement agencies to take action quickly before it’s too late for Dr Adel Malahmeh’s business.
