RNC in Milwaukee: Businesses Prepare for Influx and Host Committee Assures Support

Business Owners Expressing Concerns Prior to Republican National Convention

The Republican National Convention is just under 100 days away, and Milwaukee is preparing for the influx of visitors. While the city is working to ensure a safe and secure week, some business owners downtown have concerns about the impact on their operations.

On Thursday, an information session was held for businesses affected by the convention’s security zone. The women who own a boat company were among those in attendance, as they start to book cruises for the summer, their busiest time of year. When they asked if the river would be open during the RNC, they were told that it was still uncertain.

The host committee encourages Milwaukeeans to not stay away during the week of the RNC. “We want people to be in Milwaukee,” said Allison Prange, chief operating officer of the MKE 2024 Host Committee. “Go to a bar or restaurant you like, enjoy the lakefront, don’t stay away because our city businesses are going to get great business.”

The host committee also wants to assure businesses that resources are available for them. Information sessions will be held regularly leading up to the event, and more specific details will be provided as needed. Businesses can sign up for these resources on MKE2024host.org.
