The Russian Navy has announced that a detachment of ships from the Pacific Fleet recently completed exercises in the Gulf of Aden. The detachment, consisting of the missile cruiser Varyag and frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov, practiced joint actions to destroy unmanned boats and drones of a simulated enemy.
The Russian warships successfully repelled attacks by firing in sectors and destroying all training targets – both air and sea. During the exercises, the Pacific Fleet detachment also practiced responding to pirate attacks. In a scenario where a merchant ship was under attack, Russian sailors came to its aid and successfully repelled the pirate attack.
