School Function Turns Tragic: 40 Students Injured in GA Crash Between Chartered Bus and Car

Pickens County crash involving bus full of students and sports car occurs on Friday night

On Friday night, a serious crash occurred on State Route 515 in Pickens County involving a charter bus and a black Infiniti sports car. The crash resulted in the closure of the southbound lanes of GA 5 and Interstate South Drive. According to Georgia State Patrol, the incident happened when the sports car turned left in front of the bus, which was carrying 40 occupants, most of whom were juveniles attending a school function.

The charter bus, owned by R&W Coach and Bus Company, collided with the car on its passenger side. All the occupants of the bus were able to safely exit the bus around 9:33 p.m. A spokesperson from the bus company reported that the bus driver and a juvenile passenger both sustained minor injuries. The students on the bus were from a high school in DeKalb County, though the specific school and event they were attending have not been confirmed by FOX 5.

Georgia State Patrol stated that the driver of the Infiniti is in critical condition, and two individuals from the bus were taken to the hospital with injuries. One lane of traffic was reopened around 10:45 p.m. as authorities worked to clear the scene completely.
