Severe Weather: Tornadoes in Houston Spark Demand for Safe Rooms and Shelters.

Business is picking up for tornado shelters in Texas, vendors report

Tornadoes have been causing havoc in the Houston area recently, with two hitting the region in the past month. Storm attorney Rene Sigman has noted that tornado damage is on the rise across the country, including in Texas. This has led to an increase in demand for businesses like Lone Star Safe Rooms, which offer homeowners the opportunity to make their homes safer.

Jeff Kiser of Sportsman Steel has seen a similar trend in customers reaching out for tornado shelters following major storms. He showed KPRC 2 Investigates one of their shelters that is designed to protect families from high impact wind events. Chris Hooser believes that tornado shelters will become more common in homes in the future, similar to how dishwashers are now a standard feature in households.

While underground shelters are common in the Midwest, going underground is not an option in southeast Texas due to the risk of flooding. Frank Billingsley of KPRC 2 reports on the increasing need for tornado shelters in Texas and emphasizes the importance of being prepared for severe weather events. The cost of a shelter can vary, but its primary goal is to protect the lives of friends and families. It is expected that more homes in the area will have tornado shelters in the future to provide a safe haven during severe weather events.
