Snow in Santiago: An Unusual Occurrence Becomes Familiar for Residents

The capital of Chile experienced snowfall

Chile is experiencing snowfall in its capital city of Santiago, despite it being an unusual occurrence. On Tuesday, snow was reported in the Santiago metropolitan area, causing locals to use umbrellas for protection. Various areas in the Santiago region, including Vitacura, Vauras Las Condes, and Puente Alto, also experienced snowfall. While this is not the first time that snow has fallen in Santiago, it has impacted energy consumption in households and caused up to 225,000 people to experience issues with electricity usage.

The authorities have advised caution when dressing for the weather and driving on snow-covered roads due to the recent snowfall in Chile. The country’s seasons are opposite those in Europe, making this spectacle a unique experience for residents. Despite its rarity, snowfall in Santiago has become a familiar occurrence over the years, with similar events happening in July 2020 and July 2017.
