Solar Eclipse Awe-Strucks Crowd at Science Museum of Virginia

Richmond Watches Solar Eclipse from Science Museum of Virginia’s Grounds

Over 1,000 people gathered at the Science Museum of Virginia on Monday afternoon to witness the solar eclipse from the museum’s new open space. The atmosphere was electric as all eyes were focused on the sky at the epicenter of science in Richmond.

Young attendees Mason and Evan sported special shirts for this unique science lesson and expressed excitement to see something cool. A woman selling moon pies and eclipse gum added to the festive mood of the event. Perry Barker from the Astronomical Society showcased a telescope designed for safe sun viewing, while others took pride in sharing the astronomical show lasting over two hours across the country.

Ten-year-old Mason, one step closer to his dream of becoming an astronaut, found the eclipse amazing, contrasting with his brother who found it boring. The next solar eclipse is not expected until 2044, but Mason may be an astronaut by then at 34 years old.
