Sonic Safari: The Soundtrack to Seven Endangered Wonders

First Album Pays Homage to the Seven Sonic Wonders

Dolby Laboratories has created the first album paying tribute to seven endangered sonic wonders, with a musical score by award-winning composer Nainita Desai. The album, titled “Seven Sonic Wonders,” was produced in collaboration with wildlife sounds technician Chris Watson and is now available on Apple Music.

The album collects the sound of Vatnajokull glacier in Iceland, the dawn chorus of Lake Suvasvesi in Finland, the smiling hippopotamus in Kenya, the frog beats in Gamboa in Panama, the murmur of starlings in the United Kingdom, the whispers of a coral reef in the Sulu Sea, and the song of a humpback whale in the Caribbean Sea.

Dolby followed strict criteria to choose these wonders, including epic natural beauty, diversity and distribution, ecological importance, historical heritage, geographical location, and embodiment of mystery. The aim was to create a deeper connection between listeners and Mother Nature through music.

The album was mixed by Kurt Martinez with Dolby Atmos technology to enhance the listening experience. All proceeds from royalties will go to EarthPercent charity, which offers organizations fighting climate change an opportunity to receive support from within the music industry.

Nainita Desai expressed her excitement about working on this project with Dolby: “I have been fortunate enough to travel all over the world and experience nature’s sounds firsthand. We often overlook how important these sounds are compared to visual wonders but they truly go hand-in-hand.” Chris Watson added that he hopes each track transports listeners into the heart of these natural wonders.
