62 employees of Lancaster County business destroyed by tornado are being laid off

In the aftermath of a devastating tornado that destroyed its facility near Waverly, Garner Industries has announced layoffs for several employees. The company’s CEO and president, Scott McLain, shared in a press release that 62 employees were affected by the layoffs. The tornado, classified as an EF-3, demolished the company’s 115,000-square-foot building and resulted in injuries to three individuals.

Despite the challenges presented by the natural disaster, McLain expressed the company’s commitment to finding a way forward. He acknowledged the difficulty of the situation, emphasizing the close-knit relationships between the employees and their employer. In an effort to continue operations, Garner Industries is in the process of relocating its BinMaster product line to an alternate location in Lincoln.

The severe weather event also caused significant damage to the company’s machine tool, molding, and automation equipment. Affected employees will receive compensation and health benefits during this transitional period. Garner Industries has set up various forms of support for their employees, including community assistance, medical and mental health resources, as well as opportunities for new employment. McLain urged affected employees to take advantage of these resources and to reach out for help if needed.
