Oswald Peraza, who has been sidelined from playing for the past eight weeks, is set to return to the field. The Tampa Tarpons, the Yankees’ Single-A affiliate, announced that Peraza will begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday during a doubleheader against Clearwater. The 23-year-old had reported discomfort in his right shoulder during spring training and was diagnosed with a subscapular strain.
After being shut down on March 9, it was announced that Peraza would need six to eight weeks to recover. Saturday marked the eight-week milestone since the injury was announced. However, although Peraza is returning to the field, Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated that the infielder is still a while away from being activated. Boone mentioned that Peraza will need to go through a full spring training of games before he can fully return, which may take a few more weeks.
Peraza began throwing again in early April and has played in 70 games for the Yankees over the last two seasons. During that time, he recorded a .216 batting average with three home runs, 11 doubles, 16 RBI, and 23 runs scored.
