Tensions Linger in Kirants Village: Residents Monitor Demarcation Efforts Amid Fear of Loss and Violation of Rights

Police presence at the intersection, maintaining peace

Currently, the situation in Kirants village remains calm with law enforcement personnel patrolling the roads and guarding the demarcation areas. According to “Azatutyun”‘s observations, there were no groups carrying out work activities in these areas. The villagers reported waiting anxiously with a noticeable presence of police forces and restrictions on outside vehicles entering the village.

In response to increased police surveillance, residents of Kirants stationed themselves at the entrance to Kheirimli to prevent potential surveyors from encroaching on their village’s territory. They are determined not to allow any work in areas they consider their own, supported by ownership certificates from Soviet times. Meanwhile, His Holiness Bagrat led a march from Sevan to Yerevan to raise awareness about his struggle against demarcation.

The people of Tavush fear that demarcation could lead to the transfer of Armenian territories to Azerbaijan, including Kirants, and seek security guarantees. While authorities believe that demarcation reduces security risks, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan warned of potential conflicts until the border with Azerbaijan is officially defined. The ongoing tensions highlight the complex interplay between security concerns and territorial claims in the region.

The situation in Kirants remains tense as residents continue to monitor any potential encroachment on their land by surveyors or other outsiders. Despite warnings from authorities that demarcation reduces security risks, many locals remain skeptical and fear for their safety and future rights.

The march led by His Holiness Bagrat was met with support from villagers who were determined not to let anyone take away their land or violate their rights. The ongoing tensions between Tavush and Azerbaijan have been going on for years, with many disputes remaining unresolved.

Despite efforts by authorities to maintain calm in Kirants village, many residents continue to feel threatened by any potential encroachment on their land or territory. Their concerns are not only about losing land but also about maintaining their cultural heritage and way of life.

As tensions continue between Tavush and Azerbaijan over territorial claims, it remains uncertain what the future holds for Kirants village and its residents. Only time will tell if an agreement can be reached or if further conflict erupts in this already volatile region.
