The Complexity of Connections: Insights and Discoveries from the World of Networks

Potsdam Science Café on April 17th

Intriguing questions and fascinating discoveries in the realm of complex networks will be explored during the next Clarkson University Science Café, titled Simple Insights from Complex Networks. This event will take place on Wednesday, April 17 at 7:15 p.m. and attendees can expect to discuss topics such as whether any two people in the world are separated by just six acquaintances, do our friends have more friends than ourselves, and why is it difficult to stop an epidemic by vaccinating only a fraction of the population.

Dr. Dani ben-Avraham, who specializes in physics at Clarkson University, will lead the discussion on this fascinating field and share some of the groundbreaking discoveries within this realm. The network of social contacts is just one example of the many complex networks that exist in our daily lives, including those found in various aspects of society like the Internet, World Wide Web, flight connections, electricity power grid and neurons in the brain.

Science Café events provide an opportunity for local researchers or experts to engage with the community through informal discussions on various science and research topics. Attendees can expect to participate in a lively conversation about complex networks while also learning about how these networks affect our daily lives.
