Stay Prepared: Chaffee County Hosts Another Emergency Preparedness Workshop

Carly Winchell Presents Emergency Preparedness & Go-Kit Distribution Event Hosted by Chaffee County Public Health

A grassfire north of Salida Airport has been successfully brought under control, as captured in a photo by Casey Johns. In response to the high demand for emergency preparedness information, Chaffee County Public Health (CCPH) is hosting a workshop on the topic. The workshop will take place on Tuesday, May 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at A Church in Salida.

The workshop is open to all ages, but RSVP is required due to limited space. It will be presented by CCPH Emergency Preparedness and Response Coordinator Sophia Gibb and CCPH Director Andrea Carlstrom. Those interested in attending or needing more information should contact Sophia Gibb at SGibb@ChaffeeCounty.org or text/call 719-207-6563.

During the workshop, attendees will receive information on evacuation checklists, insurance coverage, preparing pets for disaster, and more. This comprehensive workshop aims to equip Chaffee County residents with the knowledge and tools they need to be prepared for any emergency situation, such as a wildfire.

In addition to the presentation, free go-kits will be made available to those who register for the event. Having a go-kit ready is essential for every household in case of an emergency. The go-kits will include essential supplies such as flashlights, water bottles, and first aid kits.

CCPH is eager to offer this presentation again to meet the community’s needs after a sold-out workshop at the Salida library in March. The demand for emergency preparedness information highlights the importance of being ready for any situation that may arise
