Turkey Leg Hut Faces Financial Troubles and Bankruptcy Filing Amid Ongoing Legal Issues

Turkey Leg Hut declares bankruptcy

On Tuesday, March 26, the Turkey Leg Hut filed for bankruptcy due to ongoing legal issues and financial troubles. The restaurant owner, Nakia Holmes, announced that a receiver had been appointed to handle the restaurant’s assets and funds to help pay off debts.

The Turkey Leg Hut has faced controversy and legal battles since its opening in 2016. A fire at the restaurant’s business office in January 2019 raised questions about the safety of the property, and a lawsuit from former business partner Steve Rogers added to the financial burden.

In addition to these challenges, the restaurant also owes $2 million in state tax revenue. These issues led the Turkey Leg Hut to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which will put a stop to collection efforts while the restaurant continues discussions with financial stakeholders to reposition the business.

Despite facing these challenges, the Turkey Leg Hut remains a popular spot in the community and has become a focal point for discussions on race and gentrification in Houston.
