National Action Plan on Responsible Business Conduct Unveiled by State Department

The U.S. government has unveiled its 2024 National Action Plan on Responsible Business Conduct, which underscores its commitment to promoting green energy, human rights, combating corruption, technology usage, protecting human rights defenders and advancing gender equality. This plan comprises four main focus areas aimed at strengthening responsible business conduct and upholding ethical practices within the private sector.

The first priority area involves establishing a federal advisory committee on responsible business conduct to collaborate with the private sector, academia, civil society, and other stakeholders in promoting responsible business conduct. In the second focus area, the Department of Defense will review whether it should require or encourage membership in the International Code of Conduct Association for Private Security Providers’ Association for vendors.

Moreover, the plan emphasizes businesses conducting human rights due diligence across their value chains following international standards. By implementing these priorities and strategies outlined in the plan, the U.S. government aims to promote responsible business conduct and ensure that ethical practices are upheld within the private sector.

Overall, this action plan is an important step towards building a more ethical and sustainable future for both businesses and society as a whole.
