VCSU Trap Club Wins 1st Place in ND State Collegiate Trap Shoot: Meet Freshman Kaden Schafer

Schafer from VCSU clinches trap shoot state title

The Valley City State University (VCSU) Trap Club recently took part in the North Dakota State Collegiate Trap Shoot on April 27. During the event, Freshman Kaden Schafer, majoring in Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences, emerged as the winner of the 1st Place Male in Singles Trap after a two-round shoot-off that broke a three-way tie. Alongside Schafer, other top performers for the day included Logan Heen, Brooke Gaudry, Grant Larson, and Derek Jacobs.

VCSU’s club advisor and professor Dr. Nick Galt expressed his excitement about participating in the event and competing against other collegiate level teams from the region. He stated, “Trap is such a competitive sport and it’s great to have high-level competitors to compete against.” VCSU is set to launch an intercollegiate Shooting Sports team in the upcoming fall semester.

Schafer was thrilled with his performance despite the windy conditions, saying “It was a windy day and I was glad to hit 93 in those conditions. It always impresses me how much respect there is between competitors even in a high-stakes shoot-off.” Those interested in learning more about VCSU’s Trap Club or its new Shooting Sports team can contact Dr. Galt at nicholas.galt@vcsu.edu or by calling 701-845-7459.
