Vietnam Rises to the Top of Global Rice Exporters with Quality and Quantity

Vietnam’s rice export prices reclaim top spot in global market

Vietnam has recently reclaimed its position as the top exporter of rice in the global market, thanks to a rise in prices. According to a report by the Vietnam News Agency, citing the Vietnam Food Association, prices for Vietnamese rice increased by US$3 to US$8 per ton last week. This helped push Vietnam’s 5 per cent broken rice price to US$585 per ton, which is higher than Thailand’s by US$3 per ton and Pakistan’s by US$10 per ton.

In addition to its high-quality rice, Vietnam’s 25 per cent broken rice is priced at US$555 per ton, while 100 per cent broken rice is priced at US$470 per ton. In the first four months of this year, Vietnam earned US$2.08 billion from exporting 3.23 million tons of rice, marking a 36.5 per cent increase in value and an 11.7 per cent increase in volume compared to the same period last year.

Looking ahead, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development projects that Vietnam’s rice output will reach 43 million tons by 2024. This level of production will be sufficient to meet both domestic consumption needs as well as the export demand of more than 8 million tons. With its strong rice industry and potential for further expansion on the global market, Vietnam continues to show growth and promise for the future.
