One million dollar donation supports completion of Hoyt Science Center project

Westminster College received a significant donation this week as alumni Will and Carol Jean Young Maurer donated $1 million as a lead challenge gift. The Maurers, who graduated from Westminster College, were recognized with the unveiling of the Maurer Atrium within Hoyt Science Center’s expanded wing. President Dr. Kathy Brittain Richardson announced the Maurers’ generous donation at the dedication ceremony.

The Maurers earned Bachelor of Science degrees in economics and business administration from Westminster College. Their donation will support the final phase of the Hoyt Science Center project, which includes a nursing simulation lab, the Harms Center for the Environment, department updates, and mechanical upgrades. The Maurers also established the endowed Maurer Scholarship for students from Belle Vernon Area High School and Elizabeth Forward High School.

Recently, an expansion wing for the chemistry and biochemistry departments was completed as part of the Hoyt Science Center project. To support or learn more about the Hoyt Science Center project, visit www.westminster.edu/4Hoyt.
