5th-Grader Teaghan Bailey Takes Home Gold Ribbon for ‘Wash Your Hands’ Microbiology Project at 73rd Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair

Fifth Grader from Our Lady Of The Presentation Wins First Place at Science and Engineering Fair – Lee’s Summit Tribune

On April 6, 2024, a fifth-grade student named Teaghan Bailey from Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic School excelled at the 73rd Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair held at Union Station. She received a gold ribbon and a blue division winner ribbon (first place) in the intermediate division for her project on microbiology titled “Wash Your Hands.”

Teaghan’s research involved testing the effectiveness of different hand cleansing methods, including soap & water, hand sanitizer, and water only. Her findings demonstrated that soap & water was the most effective method for eliminating bacteria from hands. Her dedication to her project earned her first place in her division and a cash prize of $100.

With over 63 schools participating in the science and engineering fair and more than 500 projects across senior, junior, and intermediate levels, Teaghan’s accomplishment stands out as a testament to her hard work and dedication. Her success is a reflection of her passion for science and her commitment to academic excellence.
