Around the World with Math and Science Night: Klager Elementary School Celebrates STEAM Learning through Hands-On Experiences

Exploring the World Through Math and Science Night

On April 26th, Klager Elementary School hosted an exciting event called Around the World with Math and Science Night. This incredible evening was organized by a dedicated team of volunteers from both Klager and high schools.

Families were immersed in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning as they explored various aspects of math and science from around the world in the Klager cafeteria. The children discovered fascinating facts about the science of growing food in the Arctic, the origins of popcorn in Peru, and how sorbet was invented in China. They also had hands-on experiences with technology through robotics demonstrations by Klager K-12 robotics teams and practiced their engineering skills with K’Nex sets from the United States.

In addition to all the scientific and technological fun, there was also an art show preview that delighted families. They were able to participate in a make-and-take activity to create notebooks, which were invented in Australia. A math challenge in the form of the game Mancala, created in Africa, was presented by high school students.

Throughout the event, Title 1 representatives shared information on reading Michigan-based books and products while MI Future Funds provided guidance on college planning and saving. Children voted for their favorite station at the end of the night, with the Robotics Teams winning first place.

Overall, families of all ages thoroughly enjoyed this interactive and engaging event that allowed them to explore different facets of math and science from around the world.
