Brazil has made a bid to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup, which has been ranked higher than bids from Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium. The FIFA evaluation report released on Tuesday shows that the Brazilian bid scored higher than the joint European bid.
The decision on who will host the tournament will be made by the FIFA Congress on May 17 in Bangkok. This will be the first time soccer’s governing body will hold an open vote to determine the hosts of the Women’s World Cup.
Brazil’s bid received an average score of 4.0 out of 5 in the technical evaluation, while the European bid received a score of 3.7. Both bids were found to exceed the minimum hosting requirements by the bid evaluation task force.
The United States and Mexico had initially submitted a joint bid but withdrew last week. They have now set their sights on hosting the 2031 tournament. Similarly, South Africa dropped its bid last year and is also looking towards hosting the 2031 tournament.
