Irma Nallely Baltazar is an inspiring individual who has discovered the joy of sports despite her limited vision. For Irma, playing sports without sight has a special significance in breaking down barriers and divisions that often prevent people from starting or continuing to practice sports. She believes that sport is a human right and should be accessible to all individuals.
Along with four other students from the University of Guanajuato (UG), Irma created a Mexican game called Tiro en Braille. This game allows men and women, individuals with disabilities, and those without disabilities to play together without any categories or divisions. The creation of this inclusive sport was born out of Irma’s personal experience of feeling excluded from traditional sports due to her disability.
Irma’s journey towards inclusion in sports began when she attended the university level. While most children in Mexico receive physical education lessons in school, Irma never felt truly included or interested in sports until she had the opportunity to play and create an inclusive sport at the university level. This experience has not only allowed her to enjoy sports but also to advocate for the importance of accessibility and inclusion in sports for all individuals.
