GB achieves record medal haul at Para-cycling Track World Championships

The British cycling team had an outstanding performance at the UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Brazil, winning a total of 31 medals. Over the course of the five-day event, they secured 13 gold, 13 silver, and five bronze medals.

On the final day of racing in Rio, British riders claimed 11 medals, including three world titles. Lizzi Jordan and Danni Khan won their third title of the championships in the women’s tandems category. Sophie Unwin and Jenny Holl secured silver in the sprint event. Neil Fachie and Matt Rotherham continued their dominance by winning their third consecutive sprint title in the men’s tandems category. James Ball and Steff Lloyd also contributed to the team’s success by winning bronze in their event. Kadeena Cox, Blaine Hunt, and Jaco van Gass won silver in the C1-5 mixed team sprint while Katie Toft and Daphne Schrager secured silver medals in the women’s C1 and C2 omniums.

Kaneena Van Gass further solidified his exceptional performance by winning the men’s C3 scratch race and securing the omnium title, his third gold medal of the championships. Other British cyclists, including Fin Graham, Matt Robertson, and Blaine Hunt, also performed well by finishing in top positions and earning bronze medals in their respective events. Overall, their remarkable achievements underscored their talent and determination on the world stage.

Reflecting on their performance, Khan expressed her surprise and pride in their accomplishments while noting how much progress they had made together as a team.
