Unions claim Macron is delaying his “vision” for agriculture

On Thursday morning, President Emmanuel Macron met with representatives from the agricultural sector at the Élysée to discuss the future of agriculture and address the end of the winter crisis. Despite being described as a “working meeting” by the Élysée, Macron acknowledged that anger within the agricultural sector would not subside anytime soon. He also expressed his commitment to work together to create a new vision for the sector.

Following the meeting, union leaders reported that Macron emphasized the need to focus on building a project for the future of agriculture rather than running after anger. The majority union, FNSEA, has been waiting for Macron’s vision for the future of French agriculture since facing their worst crisis in thirty years. In response to their grievances, the government has made over 60 commitments and is currently examining an agricultural orientation bill.

Macron suggested waiting until after the upcoming elections to the chambers of agriculture in January 2025 before committing fully to his vision for agriculture.
