Panama’s Upcoming General Elections: A Crucial Moment in its Democratic Process.

What is the date of the 2024 Elections in Panama?

The upcoming 2024 general elections in Panama will mark a pivotal moment in the country’s democratic process. On Sunday, May 5th, citizens will head to the polls to elect the next president, vice-president of the Republic, 20 deputies to the Central American Parliament (Parlacen), as well as 71 deputies to the National Assembly, 81 mayors, and 701 representatives of the township. The mandate for these positions will run from July 1st, 2024 to June 30th, 2029.

This election cycle is set to see eight presidential candidates vying for the top job in Panama. As citizens prepare to make their choice, they can reflect on the country’s democratic journey since the end of Manuel Antonio Noriega’s dictatorship in 1989. Since then, Panamanians have had an opportunity to participate in free and fair elections every four years. This seventh vote since the US invasion will be no exception.

The Electoral Court is estimating an impressive participation rate of around 80% for this election cycle. To facilitate voting for citizens across Panama, over 2,982 voting centers have been set up throughout the country. As candidates campaign tirelessly and voters weigh their options carefully, this election promises to be a crucial moment in Panama’s ongoing democratic process.
