Revolutionizing Safety Management: HMM’s Adoption of GlobeAI’s Deep Eyes AI Image Analysis Solution”.

AI technology improves maritime safety using HMM

HMM Co., a leading sea carrier based in South Korea, has announced the adoption of an advanced AI image analysis solution called ‘Deep Eyes’. This new technology, developed by GlobeAI, a startup founded by professors from Chung-Ang University, aims to enhance safety management across HMM’s fleet. Deep Eyes integrates AI image analysis capabilities into CCTV systems to detect emergencies such as fires, smoke, safety gear non-compliance, and falls with the ability to promptly alert management.

Traditionally, shipping companies have used standard CCTV to monitor the interiors and exteriors of large ships that can be compared to 3 to 4 soccer fields. However, the absence of notification features in current CCTV systems has presented challenges for effective safety management. With the introduction of Deep Eyes, HMM hopes to have a faster response to safety incidents and aims to prevent secondary accidents. The system will first be installed on a 24,000 TEU class container ship, which is the largest in the world, scheduled for next month. It will cover 15 critical areas including the engine room and deck.

After an evaluation period, HMM plans to explore the broader application of Deep Eyes technology across its entire fleet. For more information contact Sang Hoon Sung at uphoon@hankyung.com.
