The former mayor of Bari, Simeone Di Cagno Abbrescia, has passed away at the age of 80 after a long battle with illness. His funeral chapel will be open in the town hall starting this afternoon, with the funeral scheduled for tomorrow at 10:30 in the Basilica of San Nicola. Di Cagno Abbrescia began his political career with the PRI and later joined Forza Italia in 1994. He served as mayor of the Apulian capital in 1995 and 1999, and later represented Forza Italia in the Chamber in 2006 and 2008. He attempted to run for mayor of Bari again in 2009 but was defeated in the run-off by Michele Emiliano.
