Snowy Blizzard Hits the Bavarian Forest: Residents and Authorities Prepare for More Snowfall in the Regen District

April Snow in Bavaria: Winter Wonderland

The Bavarian Forest is experiencing heavy snowfall, making it impossible to pass without winter equipment. Around 30 to 40 centimeters of fresh snow fell at an altitude of 900 to 1000 meters, creating a state of emergency on the ski slopes and streets in the Regen district. Despite constant use of winter services, vehicles are moving slowly due to the snowy conditions. The mountain railway has closed its main gondola lift and the “Eisensteiner Hütte” inn for the next two days.

Residents in the Regen district are being warned about the increasing snow loads on their roofs. The Fire department District press spokesman mentioned that they cannot inspect every house or remove snow from private roofs. However, sudden snowfall in April is not uncommon in the regions around Großer Arber, and this current weather is due to a low called “Annina” over Poland bringing cold air to Germany. Meteorologists expect heavy snowfall on Sunday night in certain regions, with more than 15 centimeters of fresh snow above 400 to 600 meters.

The German Weather Service attributes this weather to a low-pressure system over Poland that is bringing cold air to Germany. Nature in the Bavarian Forest is always surprising with its diversity, and residents and authorities are taking measures to manage the situation as the snowfall continues.
