The sudden death of former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis has left the football community in shock. On Monday morning, police in Davie, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale, were called to a medical emergency at Davis’ residence where they found him dead. Davis had a successful 10-year career in the NFL that began with the Miami Dolphins who drafted him 25th overall in 2009 from the University of Illinois. After three seasons with the Dolphins, he was traded to the Indianapolis Colts just before the 2012 season. He played for six seasons and was later signed by the Buffalo Bills in 2018. However, he abruptly left the team at halftime during the second game of the season citing numerous injuries and surgeries that made it impossible for him to continue playing at his best level.
In a statement following his departure from football, Davis mentioned that he had been plagued by injuries throughout his career and realized that it was time for him to hang up his cleats and retire. Despite this setback, Davis’ legacy on the field will always be remembered as one of an exceptional talent who overcame adversity to achieve success.
