UTSA’s $5 Million Investment for a New NEST: Nurturing Elite Sports Talent and Uniting the Community

County commissioners allocate funds for UTSA sports facility ‘Roadrunners NEST’

UTSA is set to receive a $5 million investment from Bexar County commissioners for a new sports facility on the main campus. The “Roadrunner NEST,” which stands for “Nurturing Elite Sports Talent,” will be accessible to residents and will serve as the home for UTSA’s men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams. The $35 million facility is expected to be completed by December 2026, with the City of San Antonio also contributing an equal amount towards the project.

County Commissioner Grant Moody highlighted the importance of joint use opportunities for the county and city, emphasizing that the Roadrunner NEST will be available for use by everyone in the community, not just UTSA students. The facility will be open to the public for competitive events and youth sports.

UTSA has committed to covering the facility’s annual operating costs of $500,000 once it is completed. With approximately half of UTSA’s students being Bexar County residents, the new sports facility is expected to benefit a significant portion of the local community.
