On Tuesday, Venezuela lost one of its oldest residents, Juan Vicente Perez Mora, at the age of 114. Officials and family members confirmed his death. Perez was recognized as the world’s oldest man by Guinness World Records in February 2022, at the age of 112 years and 253 days. He was a father of 11 children and had numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Perez was born in El Cobre, Tachira on May 27, 1909. He was the ninth of ten children and began working in agriculture at the age of five, helping his father and brothers with tasks such as sugar cane and coffee harvesting. Despite his humble beginnings, Perez went on to become a sheriff who was known for his ability to resolve disputes related to land and family matters. He continued to work in agriculture throughout his life.

Perez’s life exemplified hard work, resilience, and a commitment to his family. His passing marks the end of an extraordinary journey that had spanned more than a century. His legacy will live on through his descendants who carry on his spirit and values.
