Microsoft opens artificial intelligence hub in London

Microsoft has announced the launch of a dedicated AI hub in London, as part of a long-term investment strategy to develop consumer products and advance research in the UK. The hub will focus on cutting-edge projects and developing essential model tools in collaboration with other Microsoft AI teams and partners like OpenAI.

The hub will be led by Jordan Hoffmann, an AI pioneer with significant experience at Inflection AI and DeepMind, showcasing dedication and expertise in artificial intelligence. Mustafa Suleyman, EVP and CEO of Microsoft AI, emphasized Microsoft’s commitment to hiring for the hub in the near future, recognizing the exceptional talent and AI ecosystem in the UK.

The announcement coincides with a recent Memorandum of Understanding signed between the UK and the US to enhance the safe development and use of AI technologies. In addition to the new London hub, Microsoft has previously made significant AI investments in the UK, including a £2.5 billion commitment to expand AI data center infrastructure and the Microsoft Research Cambridge Lab focusing on AI, cloud, and productivity research.
