Valley City Regional Science Olympiad Showcases Local STEM Talent, Advancing Top Teams to State Competition

Regional Science Olympiad hosted by VCSU on March 28th

On Thursday, March 28, Valley City State University hosted the Valley City Regional Science Olympiad for high school and middle school teams. A total of 350 students from 23 teams representing 13 schools participated in the event at the VCSU campus.

The Science Olympiad featured a variety of events including Robot Tour, Optics, Experimental Design, Can’t Judge a Powder, and more. The competition took place across multiple locations on the VCSU campus and concluded with an awards ceremony in Vangstad Auditorium.

Dr. Teather Sundstrom, a professor of chemistry at VCSU and the Regional Director for Science Olympiad, expressed his pride in seeing local students compete in STEM activities. He highlighted the contributions of VCSU faculty, staff, and local engineers in making the event possible.

Following the competition, the top five teams from both Division B (middle school) and Division C (high school) will advance to the state competition at NDSU on April 20. Teams like Ben Franklin, Central Cass, Kulm, Northern Cass, and Dakota Prairie from Division B and Fargo Davies, Red River Central Cass Northern Cass Fargo North from Division C will be moving on to the next level of competition.
